X4Q Comet

I have the SST-25R version of this flashlight and love it. It is really small, smaller than many 18650 flashlights even with its larger 21700 battery. It is also lightweight even with this larger battery too!

The SST-25R emitters provide a descent amount of throw with a lot of flood/spill with great intensity to really light up a parking lot, dark room, and similar uses where an extreme range isn't needed.

So far, the X1 Lume driver has been really efficient on the battery and I haven't need to recharge it yet! With this many lumens, battery draw is pretty high but, the 21700 battery really supports this flashlight well.

The end cap is something I have a bit of mixed feeling over at the moment. The tail cap only reveals the magnet and the lanyard ring. The battery tube itself is "blind" so, there is no direct access to insert a battery from the tail cap. Inserting the battery from the head is easy enough this doesn't concern me at all. Still though, the tail cap is a little perplexing at the moment, not bad or good, mainly just oddly curious.

Overall, an excellent flashlight!

I like this 21700 form factor and the Comet keeps the size pretty minimal. I don't miss the USB C charging too much here, the light is a bit bulky for some pockets but overall pretty managable and there's a nice clip to give you more options.

Output is strong, and it produces a very nice hotspot that's fairly large, and tapers quickly but smoothly to a generous spill that also fades out with no unpleasant artifacts. Turbo output demands power, I found that turbo would step down notably if you don't give it a capable battery. Makes sense, and a Molicell P45B has it maintaining turbo nicely. Not something I would rely on much as it gets hot, but with a battery that couldn't maintain the amperage it dropped down in output in a second or so.

The new tail design is nice, I like not messing with the cap when there's a clip held on by it. The only downside with this is that the new ring shaped magnet just isn't as strong is it needs to be. The like WILL stay attached to a vertical surface just fine, but it won't tolerate bumps or anything much before it could fall.

All that aside, I am perplexed by the change in design language. I don't know where Fireflies is going with this new batch of lights as they don't keep the same knurling pattern or black pvd bezel, switch, etc of the other FFL lights from the past year. It's still a good looking light, and the new grip pattern works well enough, but I really just liked the looks of the Stellar, X1L, etc. I think the new knurling could also be a bit tricky when your grip is reduced for any reason, it's not as grabby as the blocky knurling of their other lights. Plus, the logo over the ridged surface just doesn't result in as nice of a print transfer and it looks a bit odd.

Overall I really like the light, the fit and finish is excellent, anodizing is perfect and a nice semigloss, the new switches continue to impress, and the switch supporting RGB out of the box is a nice quality of life improvement.

It would be an easy 5 with the same knurling and design features the Stellar and Cannon have (excluding the USB C port) but as it is I'd probably give it a 4.5 if I could.

I'm 44 going on 4. Like a kid again I'm walking around the house with this thing even during the day, can't put it down. Now that I have the Andruil2 system down it's addictive. The switch is amazing nice and clicky. Run time seems really good so far. I think I'll order another one in green. 👍👍
